About the library

Perhaps unsurprisingly, most early records of the Library of Lost Lives and its volunteers have been lost to time, but we are still relatively sure that the library has existed at least as long as [redacted] has been inhabited, and perhaps longer. We believe the library has always existed on this site, but has changed size and shape to adapt to the world around it; when the [redacted] Centre was built in 2017, for example, our previous one lobby floor became two, as the area of our first two floors reduced to make space for the various businesses and organisations now there.

Our library is primarily for the preservation and commemoration of lost lives; however, researchers interested in studying the phenomena of "becoming lost" and the sociological conditions that surround it are welcome to study our collections, provided they respect the other visitors, for whom visiting the LLL may be an emotionally charged experience.

Our team

Dian

Full-time librarian

Dian is our oldest librarian, though he doesn't look it! He's been volunteering with us since roughly the beginning of time, and manages our collections of the lives of those who are both lost and dead. He is frequently accompanied by his black German Shepherd, Friedrich.

Alysa

Part-time collections volunteer

Alysa joined LLL in 2019 after the death of her brother Jasper, whose life has become one of the most vivid and detailed in our collections thanks to Alysa's hard work. Since then, Alysa has become one of our most reliable collections volunteers, and frequently shows new visitors and volunteers around. She is also studying Psychology at the University of [redacted].

Eloise

Part-time connections volunteer

Eloise started volunteering with us in 2021 as a way to fill the long daylight hours of summer she couldn't spend with Indigo. Nowadays (when she's not modelling for [redacted]!), she volunteers year-around, but is still more likely to be around in June than in December.

Indigo, the Moon

Part-time connections volunteer

While the Moon spends most of its time illuminating the night sky, it still manages to help LLL out during the week by showing new visitors the way in and helping them get home safely at night.

Edward

Part-time digital volunteer

Edward is our newest volunteer, though he has been helping us research lost lives since 2023. He is currently our webmaster and manages our digital systems and emails, but by day, he studies history at the University of [redacted] and is an organ scholar at St [redacted]'s.

Spencer

Safeguarding lead

As the sensible adult of LLL, Spencer is in charge of safeguarding and provides support for those who find visiting the library an emotionally strenuous experience. He also manages our under-18 volunteers, and is additionally a TA at St [redacted]'s primary school.
